Standards

Standards
Some assistive technology needs to meet Australian or other standards. Standards may relate to materials, manufacturing and installation. Products that meet Australian or international standards will have written certification. To find out if a product meets Australian Standards ask the supplier to show you the certificate. For more information about standards also see
http://at-aust.org/home/assistive_technology/standards.html

TGA
Many of the items on the Assistive Technology Australia website are categorised as a Medical Device. Medical devices that are approved for use in Australia have been entered into a national database called the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), which is maintained by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). You can ask the supplier for the ARTG number for the device you wish to purchase and search the ARTG for the entry. To access information on the ARTG visit www.tga.gov.au

When buying a medical device it is advisable to only choose a medical device that is recommended by a healthcare professional and has been included on the ARTG.

More Details

Xact Individual may be suitable for people with an orthopedic / neurological injury or a congenital condition. It is also suitable for people who are unable to self propel / shift their weight or transfer and are at medium to high risk of developing pressure injuries.
The cushion provides over 115,000 configurations to accommodate special seating needs including leg discrepancy, pelvic obliquity, contractures and other seating issues.
The Action Polymer cube pad provides pressure relief and shear reduction.

Cover
The Body Smart Cover comes with the Soft Cushion. It features a griping front layer to help prevent slouching. Incontinent and replacement covers are also available.

Sizes
Optional sizes in 25mm increments in width and depth

A custom fabricated seat cushion is covered if the following criteria is met:

1 Patient meets all of the criteria for a prefabricated skin protection seat cushion or positioning seat cushion.

2 There is a comprehensive written evaluation by a licensed clinician, which clearly explains why a prefabricated seating system is not sufficient to meet the patient's seating and positioning needs.

Considerations

All cushions must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg correct choice and depth of foam, correct inflation level) , a different product may need to be considered.
The gel cells on the top layer of the cushion can be punctured
Ensure that the item is not accidentally placed upside down or back to front
