How can I receive a talking book?
* Library members can download books from the online catalogue, or receive them via Australia Post, using re-usable containers and recyclable envelopes.
* The two-way mailers are Free Post, as the library service is free. You can listen to a number of samples on the clips, interviews and radio page.

What is DAISY?
* DAISY is an acronym for Digital Accessible Information System
* DAISY was developed in 1995 by a body of experts, including Vision Australia, responding to suggestions from blind or vision impaired readers from around the world.
* DAISY is a way of preparing an audio book that allows the reader many more options than cassette or audio CD books, for a superior reading experience.

Will I find it hard to use this new technology?
* Most clients who try DAISY books and players find them much easier to use than books on tape.
* DAISY books are contained on one CD, so there's no need to juggle multiple cassettes.
* DAISY books can be used by people with hearing issues as they can be easy to listen to.
* Several models of players are available, with large tactile buttons and simple operation.
* Books will arrive as you need them.

Do I have to use a power point?
* Yes, all DAISY players borrowed from the library need to be used connected to power.

How can I receive assistance/training for the digital playback device?
* Please call the library on 1300 654 656, for telephone assistance.
* Face to face training may be possible in certain locations.
* Instruction manuals and troubleshooting tips are available online.

Maintenance

If you have been borrowed a digital playback device by the library, please contact the library to arrange a repair. Repairs are free of charge. Please DO NOT attempt to repair it yourself. A replacement player will be posted when the faulty player is received by the library. If you have purchased a digital playback device, you are responsible for all repairs for your digital playback device although many digital playback devices come with a one-year warranty.

Your digital playback device will need to go back to the place of purchase or manufacturer for repair.

Some assistive technology needs to meet Australian or other standards. Standards may relate to materials, manufacturing and installation. Products that meet Australian or international standards will have written certification. To find out if a product meets Australian Standards ask the supplier to show you the certificate. TGA
Many of the items on the Assistive Technology Australia website are categorised as a Medical Device. Medical devices that are approved for use in Australia have been entered into a national database called the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), which is maintained by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). You can ask the supplier for the ARTG number for the device you wish to purchase and search the ARTG for the entry. To access information on the ARTG visit www.tga.gov.au

When buying a medical device it is advisable to only choose a medical device that is recommended by a healthcare professional and has been included on the ARTG.
