Caution: Load Capacity for Mobility Scooters
The load capacity of a scooter may change according to the type of ground the scooter is used on. The supplier stated load capacity may have been given for a scooter that has been tested on flat ground. However, the scooter's load capacity, performance and stability may change when the scooter is used on an incline. These factors, including the maximum gradient on which a scooter should be safely used, should be discussed with the supplier.

State transit will only carry scooters with an unladen weight of less than 200 kg and which can be driven onto the bus, and manoeuvred to fit wholly within the designated wheelchair space under their own power. Three wheeled mobility aids of any kind are unstable in normal bus operations and will not be carried because of the safety risk.

* Wear a bicycle helmet whenever possible
* Slow down when you are near other people, especially pedestrians and cyclists
* Avoid stopping or driving on inclines greater than your scooter is designed for
* Use footpaths if possible. If there are no foot paths, plan to user quieter roads
* Plan your trip and avoid uneven surfaces, dips and potholes
* Ensure if you are carrying parcels that the load will not over-balance your scooter and the parcels do not interfere with your controls or vision

Maintenance

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

Although your scooter requires very little maintenance, do not neglect it. When performing maintenance procedures on your scooter, make sure that it is parked on a level surface and that the key is not inserted.

DAILY
? Check brake effectiveness before you drive.
? Recharge batteries fully every night.

WEEKLY/FORTNIGHTLY
? Check tyre pressure. The pressure should be between 30-35 psi.
? Clean seat upholstery, plastic body and covers. To avoid electrical failure, do not spray water directly into your unit.
? Use a damp clean rag to clean all parts.
? Check and tighten the throttle lever attachment screws.

MONTHLY
? Check battery condition. Clean terminals if necessary.
? Check all electrical wire connectors to eliminate loose connection.
? Tighten all exposed bolts and nuts.
? Check wheel bearings by spinning tyres and checking for free rotation.

EVERY TWELVE MONTHS
? Visit your dealer and have a trained technician comprehensively service your scooter
? Under normal use, batteries should last between 2-3 years. These should be replaced by your dealer

Medical devices that are approved for use in Australia have been entered into a national database called the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), which is maintained by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Licence & Insurance Requirements

In NSW, motorised wheelchairs that weigh less than 110 kg and cannot travel at more than 10 km/h do not have to be registered, provided they are being used by a person with mobility problems. A person driving a motorised wheelchair under these circumstances is defined as a pedestrian under the Australian Road Rules and is permitted to travel on a footpath or nature strip adjacent to the road.

Vehicles exempt from registration are covered by the nominal defendant scheme (administered by the State Insurance Regulatory Authority) if they are at fault in an accident in NSW on a road or road-related area and cause injury to another person. However, this cover is only valid in NSW.
