Span America PressureGuard Span Care Convertible Mattress

PressureGuard Span Care Convertible Mattress is a pressure reliving mattress suitable for treatment of mild to severe pressure ulcers. It has two modes: Powered and Non-powered. The non-powered mode is used for pressure injury prevention in at-risk patients, early intervention of existing pressure injuries, or when a step-down surface is required. The powered mode is used when alternating pressure and redistribution is required. Two sizes available.

* Hidden zipper for infection control
* Safety Edge bolster design / Side zone reinforcement perimeter

Cover
* Shearing protection in the form of the silicone-coated, shear minimising fabric bands located on the underside of the bi-directional stretch cover
* Quad Directional Stretch Cover with Shear Transfer Zones:
Prevent heels, sacrum, and scapula from "digging into" surface
"Glide" user back to original position following HOB elevation
Protect against damaging effects of micro shear, macro shear, and rotational (pivot-induced) shear
Provide patient stability by transferring shear to more shear-tolerant anchor points

Considerations

All pressure reduction products must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion or mattress. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg correct inflation levels), a different product may need to be considered.

It is advisable that a health professional be consulted when considering a suitable pressure care product.
