Cert IV in Assistive Technology Mentoring

Resulting from COVID-19 impact, AT Australia restructured the course to be delivered 100% as an active online course. The materials are unchanged and delivered in reduced time by our trainers, with an increased emphasis on research and problem solving.

Multiple start date: from 2023 January
from 2023 April
Time: 9:30am - 1:30pm
All stated date/ time is AEST or UTC/GMT +10 hours, subjected to daylight saving where applicable.
Fee: Option 1: Complete full qualification
Total Fee: $10,000. $1,500 is required at enrolment. The remaining course fee to be paid in six equal monthly instalments.
Option 2: Complete individual unit/s, and not the full qualification.
Fee to be paid on enrolment of each individual unit.

Course Description

This course provides the knowledge and skills to perform as an Assistive Technology Mentor. Assistive Technology Mentors assist and support people with disabilities and/or carers to make informed choices about their assistive technology and home modification needs.

Individuals who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Research suitable assistive technology and home modification options to meet the needs and goals of others
  • Teach and support others to find assistive technology solutions for themselves
  • Provide impartial information and guidance about assistive technology possibilities to support choice

Program

This course includes seventeen units of competence. These units are nationally recognised and if all assessment tasks are completed, will provide a 10909NAT Certificate IV in Assistive Technology Mentoring.

At least 100 hours of work placement is also a requirement of this qualification.

The units of competence are:

  • Introduction (Cert IV in Assistive Technology Mentoring students only)
  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  • NAT10909001 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for communication
  • NAT10909002 Provide expert advice and guidance on walking and mobility aids
  • NAT10909003 Provide expert advice and guidance on manual wheelchairs
  • NAT10909004 Provide expert advice and guidance on powered mobility options
  • NAT10909005 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for self-care activities
  • NAT10909006 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for lifting and transferring activities
  • NAT10909007 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for transport
  • NAT10909008 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for daily living activities
  • NAT10909009 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for computer access and office activities
  • NAT10909010 Provide expert advice and guidance on pressure support surfaces
  • NAT10909011 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology in the built environment
  • NAT10909012 Provide expert advice and guidance on digital assistive technology solutions
  • NAT10909013 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for leisure activities
  • NAT10909014 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for vision impairment
  • NAT10909015 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for hearing impairment
  • NAT10909016 Provide expert advice and guidance on assistive technology for memory loss

Note: There are no entry requirements for learners wishing to complete an individual unit or groups of units. For learners wishing to complete an individual unit or group of units, if assessment is completed for each unit, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is awarded for the unit. The training is delivered over approximate 20 days, within a 12 month period.
Work placement (100 hours) will also be completed within this time frame.

Entry Requirements

Entrants for the Certificate IV in Assistive Technology Mentoring course must;

  • be a person with a disability or direct carer of a person with disability
  • have a lived experience of assistive technology

Before enrolling a meeting / phone interview with the trainer will be conducted to discuss the course details including:

  • the course information
  • costs, refunds and required timelines
  • how the training will be structured and the attendance requirements
  • the delivery strategies of the training
  • the candidate obligations under the prerequisite requirements
  • credit transfer when enrolling
  • applying for Recognition of Prior Learning
  • understanding the assessment task requirements of the course
  • whether the workplace is supporting the candidate during this course and understanding that the candidate may conduct workplace based projects and assessments
  • aware that the candidate can access information and resources online
  • understand who to contact at AT Australia if the candidate has any questions or require assistance

Refunds

If a student withdraws from the course after they have confirmed their enrolment, i.e. submitted their enrolment form to AT-AUST, the student may:

  • Substitute a person at any time. The substitute must be from the same workplace and similar background or position within the organisation
  • Request a refund up to 7 days prior to the commencement of the training, less a 10% administration fee
  • Request a transfer to another program within the current financial year

All fees for any RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) undertaken by AT-AUST for any student who withdraws from a course after they have confirmed their enrolment will be payable in full by the student.

Cancellation

Cancellation Policy

  • AT-AUST reserves the right to cancel a program when there are insufficient enrolments or unforeseen circumstances. Notification of cancellation will be given by email. If we cannot place the applicant in another program, we will refund the full course fee.
  • AT-AUST will notify students as soon as possible if a course is cancelled
  • AT-AUST does not take responsibility for any student’s costs associated with any such cancellation including airfares, travel or accommodation
