Standards Compliance

Compliance with Australian (AS) or joint Australian/New Zealand (AS/NZS) Standards may be voluntary or mandatory. Mandatory standards are law and there are penalties for supplying products that do not comply with them.

Third party certification, inspection and testing bodies assess whether a product conforms to an Australian Standard. See www.productsafety.gov.au for a list of mandatory standards and information on product testing.

Product Safety Regulation

Product safety regulation in Australia is a shared responsibility between the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the states and territories. This website is run by the ACCC on behalf of all of the consumer product safety regulators. It provides information on regulators of general consumer or specific products.
